Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade (DFAT) plays a significant role in fostering continued bilateral and multilateral relations for Papua New Guinea in areas of security, trade and others.
Its primary purpose, among others, is to;
- Create and Maintain Bilateral and Multilateral Relations;
- Negotiate Trade and Foster Economic Cooperation; and
- Other vital functions.
The Department comes directly under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, which is headed by a Secretary.
There are various Divisions;
- Executive Division
- Corporate Division
- Protocol Division
- Political, Security & Treaties Division
- Economic & Development Cooperation Division
- Trade Division
- Office of the Minister
The Department has been successful in hosting the APEC Meeting in Port Moresby in 2018.
